Sublimation Blankets: Fabric, Artwork, and Pressing

Sublimation Blankets: Fabric, Artwork, and Pressing
In this guide

A personalized blanket begins with a blank designed for the chosen sublimation process. The fabric surface, color, texture, and size all influence the result. A blanket that feels soft is not necessarily a compatible printing substrate.

Confirm the printable surface

Check the supplier's stated fiber composition and sublimation compatibility. Standard sublimation uses compatible polyester surfaces, and a light base helps printed colors show clearly. If the blanket has different materials on each side, confirm which side is intended for decoration.

Build artwork for the finished size

Prepare the file at the required output dimensions and resolution. Keep names and other essential details away from edges and seams. Check spelling on an approved proof. Large designs may exceed the press area; overlapping press sections can introduce visible differences, so test the intended production method before accepting a full-coverage order.

Follow the blank and ink instructions

Use the supplier's recommended application process for the exact substrate, ink, and paper. Secure the transfer as directed to reduce movement, and handle the printed surface according to the supplier's cooling instructions. Inspect for ghosting, uneven color, press marks, and changes to the fabric pile.

Check care and intended use

Wash a sample according to the care label and evaluate the print and fabric again. Describe the blanket's use accurately. For infants, loose blankets should be kept out of the sleep space; see CPSC safe-sleep guidance. A personalized keepsake or photo accessory should not be advertised as a safe-sleep product without an appropriate basis.
